I'm "Dreamin" of Christmas Cards

Thank you all for the beautiful Christmas cards that have been arriving in my mail box.  I have received so many gorgeous cards and pictures of you and your family.  Thank you so much!  I don't have everyones addresses so I thought it would post a few pictures of the different cards I made this year.

I love using up scraps that I have from workshops and events in my cards.  To me is truly is "scrap" making :)  For this years cards I used the Dreamin papers (which I absolutely love) and the Glory to God My Acrylix Stamp Set.

Here is the main card I made for our family:

Above shows the inside of the card and the picture below shows the inside once the picture was removed.  I used our 6x6 Kraft cards for this card and turned it inside out so the flap that you see here with the Merry Christmas card sediment acted as a photo holder on the inside of the card instead of a card flap opening as originally intended.  Warning: these cards do cost a little more to mail since they are a square but the shape just adds to it's beauty if you ask me.

Here are just a few other cards I made.  They are all about the same but just with a few slight differences.

Merry Christmas from Lyons GM Dealership and more clearance items!

Is it really only 11 days until Christmas?  It is so hard to believe that we are so close.  I have so much to do and so little time!  I love Christmas and everything it stands for.  I love giving and watching people open their gifts, gifts that I have put a lot of thought into to pick just the right gift for each person.  Usually I shop all year long to find that perfect gift for each person.  This year, however, somehow escaped me. Just last week I was thinking and looking through what I had for each person and realized, I still have a lot more to go!  So... if you see any amazing sales or have some great ideas, pass them along!  :)

Though I haven't been shopping I have been busy.  Last year I was asked by a local car dealership to make up some Christmas cards for them.  They needed to be simple but stand out.  I was happy to create for them and apparently they liked what I made and asked me to make more cards again this year.   Here is what their cards looked like this year.

It's hard to see in the picture but I used our Red Glitz glitter gel sporadically around the wreath.  to make the  card simple to put together, I used the Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge for the Topiary and White Daisy floral circles and then stamped with wreath in Cocoa, Cranberry and Topiary using the New Remarkable Wreath stamp set.  I had to make 100 of the cards but with the new cricut cartridge they all came together in about 2 hours.  Woohoo!!!

I've also been blessed to have family in town.  My Grandparents have been here from NY as well as my sister and her husband here from Wisconsin.  Time with family is so special!!! We have been spending every spare moment with my grandparents while they are here. Sadly they have to leave before Christmas but we are so thankful for the time we have now.

Merry Christmas from us all!!!

Lastly, check out my website at www.ctmh.com/HeatherHicks for brand new markdowns and clearance items.  Level 1 kits for $5, Glitter Rub-ons for $3 and lots and lots of embellishments.  Get them now before they are gone and keep checking back regularly as we continue to mark down more!

A Little Help

Well, it is that time - time to start working on Christmas cards.  I have already received 2 Christmas cards!!! If I was really with it, I would already have them put together but...  Anyway... This year I need to put Christmas cards together for a car dealership and for our family so my head is spinning as I try to get creative.  However,  I have a new big helper this year.  No, not my 4 kids who are always my big helpers, but our new Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge.  I was looking through the cricut book and through our catalog and trying to figure out which stamp sets went with which cuts and thought surely, someone else has had the same question.  I went to my online Close to My Heart Consultant site and found a fabulous spreadsheet that details the stamps and the cricut and I thought I would share it with you.  This spreadsheet was created by another sister consultant and I thank her for all her hard work.

Go to https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AjUg6hxX6qrSdHhldm1lQXZQYV84SXQ4TmxaSWtkZVE&hl=en_US#gid=0

To print it out , print it using Adobe and it should line up well.  Enjoy and happy creating!!!

A "Grand" Weekend

This past weekend was our annual scrapbook weekend retreat.  This time we tried a new destination, Grand Oaks Retreat in Scottsboro, AL.  I have to say that this house is amazing!!!  There was plenty of room for us to spread out and scrapbook in comfort, the scenery was amazing, the food outstanding and even a movie room for some down time.  I have come to really enjoy these weekends.  It is one time I can get a way, relax and rest without having to "be in charge" the entire time.  This year was no exception.  This was definitely a weekend to remember.  I thought you might enjoy seeing some of the pictures that were taken from our weekend.  The layouts shown were the ones created from our annual paper swap workshop.  I love how this "workshop" required everyone to get out of their box a bit and create with some papers that they might not choose on a regular basis.  Everyone did an amazing job!

Plan on joining us next year. The dates have already been set - November 15th - 18th. If you can't come on Thursday, you can come down on Friday for a reduced rate. Believe me though, being there Thursday really helped us each relax and enjoy the weekend that much more. Do yourself a favor, plan on coming Thursday for the most relaxation possible. Contact me at HeatherHicksCTMH@gmail.com if you are interested and I will keep you in the loop through out the year for deposit, deadlines and all the retreat information.

Christmas Cards in a Flash

Close to My Heart recently created a new video showing how fast, simple and easy creating Christmas cards can be especially with our new Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge.  Take a look at the video below and then start working on your own cards.  I would love to see what you come up with.

A Crazy, Busy Life

WOW!!! Have I really not posted for this long!?!  I am so sorry for my quietness lately.  Things here have been extremely hectic and crazy.  Last Wednesday I took a quick trip to NY (a 16 hour drive) to check on my maternal grandparents who have not been feeling well lately.  I returned late Sunday night to find out yesterday that my fraternal grandmother passed away on Monday.  She is also in NY and I unfortunately did not see her when I was in NY.
Though I haven't been posting lately, or even really creating much lately, I have on occasion been checking out what others have been creating and wanted to share with you these fun little halloween treat bags that my upline, Tina Sutton created.  She used the new Art Philosphy Cricut Cartridge to make them and was wonderful enough to supply the measurements.

Cutting Dimensions:
Box is on page 23- Cut 6 inches Black- Use Font Layer/Shift
Tag- (Happy Halloween) 2 inches-Shape 1- Decorative Layer
Tag Ribbon Slide – (black) 1 1/2 inches- Shape 1- Tag

If you create some treat bags, please send me a picture.  I would love to see what you come up with.  Have a wonderful day!

Blessings!

Catching Up

I was finally putting my things away from the Craft-N-Camp retreat and thought I would show you a couple things I worked on.
Here are a couple layouts that I finished up while on the retreat.  I am infamous for creating layouts but not having pictures at the exact time of my creation so saving them for later.  I have a whole container full of layouts that just need pictures. It is fun when I finally have pictures that I can add.  Using those layouts makes it feel like I am playing with new paper all over again.

Craft-n-Camp retreat

This past weekend I had the privilege of attending a well-known retreat named Craft-n-Camp in the Dickson TN area.  For years I have wanted to attend but they have always been full or I have been unavailable.  My downline, Angie Clemons, has been the CTMH representative for the past couple retreats but was unable to attend this go around, so I was blessed to go in her absence.  It was so nice to make some new friends, relax and actually do some scrapbooking :).

The representatives from each company were asked to supply a goody bag treat for all the attendees. My gift given was a previous Workshop on the Go brochure with a promise that if they completed the layout in the brochure they would receive another small gift from me.  I love seeing what everyone can create with the brochures using different papers.  Many times, the layouts take on a whole new look just by changing the paper.  I thought I would share with you what everyone came up with.

Enjoy!

I just have to shout!

My family and I went to see a pre-screening of the new movie - Dolphin Tale today.  I can not say enough about this wonderful, inspiring and heart-warming movie.  Our whole family thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely go back to see it again.  Ashley Judd, Harry Connick Jr and Morgan Freeman do an amazing job in this moving.  A movie that didn't have one swear word, no romantical crap or innuendos and brought happy tears to all of our eyes!

If you haven't already seen the trailor, watch below and then take your family out beginning September 23rd for a fun family night that the whole family will enjoy!

It's all about the "Elemental"

Happy Labor Day to you all!  I hope you were able to relax a bit - is that an oxymoron Labor Day/relax a bit ? :)  I don't know but I do know that we needed a bit of time to relax and though I didn't get to do it as much as I would have liked but I'm thankful for the time that I got.

I wanted to post some pictures of the last weekends workshop using the new Elemental papers.  This workshops uses the new Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge for the base and for the beautiful roses that "pop" out. Now, I promises that I wont have the amazing Art Philosophy Cartridge in all of my layouts or posts but the beauty of what it can do is absolutely awesome!!!

Here is the first layout (and actually the only layout we created due to time), the Workshop on the Go.
It is hard to see all the detail in the pictures but I honestly have to say it is beautiful.  The roses were stunning and a great addition, however, they do lend to your layout not laying flat in your album very well.
We moistened them with a spray bottle of water and bent the edges down with our tweezers to help them lay a little "flatter" but they are probably more appropriate for a home decor item or gift.  I have also seen an amazing topiary plant created with these.   Give it a try and email it to me at HeatherHicksCTMH@gmail.com and I will have a gift for you.

Here is the second layout I created.  I used the new Elemental Dimensional Elements and Magic book for the layout. I love how CTMH has changed their old stickease to now not just stickease for each kit but sometimes dimensional elements, linen sheets, rub-ons and so much more. Don't over look them in the book - there are so many options now. Also, one really cool feature about the Elemental paper is that each color/B&T paper piece will coordinate with one of the other new paper packs from the Fall/Winter Idea book.  This makes the Elemental paper a great pack to have on hand to add another "pop" of color to you other layouts.

A Blessed Weekend

Last weekend was such a special weekend for me. It started with my sweet husband's birthday on Saturday. We have a tradition to always have a muffin and a lit candle to wake up the birthday boy or girl. Princess was not about to let this tradition go by for her daddy! However, in true form to Princess, she didn't just want to have one candle - she wanted to light up the house. She "borrowed" our left over cake from my workshop the night before and lit the thing on fire - one candle for every year of course!Happy Birthday sweetheart!!!

On Sunday, Bruiser requested to be baptized. He had been asking for a while but we wanted to make sure he was ready. He was so excited! All week long, He and Tinkerbell did the count down until he was "bathtized" (per Tinkerbell:)). Mike was blessed to be able to be the one to baptize him and I was so proud and happy for both of them. Thanks to Meishach Moore for capturing this perfect picture as my hands were shaking with joy too much to get anything clearly!

New Cricut Images

I hope you are as excited about the new Cricut Art Philosophy Cartridge as I am! This is going to make scrapbooking, card making and gift giving soooo much easier! I love the fact that CTMH has labeled all the stamp images the size the cuts need to be in order to have the Cricut cut it and you stamp the image. This will save so much time instead of having to cut all your images out and their is no guess work. We will know exactly what size to cut each image out - yeah!!!

I have had several people ask me about the different 700 that can be cut on the cricut so I thought it would be good for me to post a picture of all the images. Hope you find several you like and can use!!!

A Couple Cute Projects

This past weekend I was invited to a unit meeting for a sister team. Last year we all went to convention together but because a few of us weren't able to go this year, Gina - my sister scrapbooker - invited me, along with several other ladies to come and see many of the cool new products from Close to My Heart.

Gina was so sweet and made us each these cute name tags and little french fry boxes which she filled with sticky notes, a pen, a highlighter and chocolate! YEAH!!! Both were made with the new Typeset papers new Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge. Also, notice the border she put around the boxes - this cute border is the new zip strip on our B&T papers. On one side is the Close to My Heart logo and the other side is a coordinating embellishment to be used with that paper pack. Pretty cool, huh!

We made these beautiful cards using the new Roxie papers, Love Life Stamp set and Bling Assortment. The rose was cut using the new Art Philosophy cartridge. It was super easy!

I was also gifted these beautiful cards Gina created at convention this year. Each card shows off the the newest paper packs and embellishments. Aren't they beautiful!?!

If your ready to get your hands on this amazing new Art Philosophy Cricut Collection, shop my website now and get yours on it's way!

School is on our Minds!

It is so hard for me to believe that school starts for the county next Monday! We just finished our studies about 3 weeks ago so I am planning on taking another 2 weeks before we head back. That doesn't mean school isn't on our minds though. I have ordered their books and getting my plans together, school is never far from our minds.

When we were at the Beach a couple weeks ago and I was playing Studio J, I created a couple old school layouts that I was behind on. It doesn't matter if you are a consultant or not, I always seem to be behind in my scrapbooks! But, I keep trying and having the benefit of Studio J sure does come in handy :). Here are the layouts I created.

This one is of Bruiser as he started his first day of Mother's Day Out. As you can see from the date, these pictures are all the way from 2008!!! WOW, I can't believe I let this one escape me.

This next layout is one just from this past Spring when TinkerBell graduated from MDO. It was so hard to see her graduate knowing she was the last one of my precious babys to graduate from there. She had no problem though and was happy to be the center of attention. :)

California or Florida?

Today is Leadership day for Close To My Heart's annual convention. The convention is being held at the beautiful Walt Disneyland in CA and this is the first year in 6 years that I have not been in attendance! With my husbands busy travel schedule this summer for work, there were no other options. So, I am waiting on pins and needles to hear all the details for the convention that is slated to be the biggest convention since the announcement of the My Acrylix Stamps! As soon as I hear the details I will post what I know. What I do know is that the brand new Autumn/Winter Idea book have left the corporate offices and are on there way to me. This idea book will be available to all customer August 1st and will hold all the secrets to the big reveal going on in CA right now. I am so excited I can barely stand it!!!

BUT, God is good, and if I couldn't go to CA, He brought me to the other side of the nation and planted my big tush at the beach! YEAH!!! The kids and I are having a blast. Mike has been working tons - late nights and over the weekend . We have barely been able to see him but thankfully he was able to get out at about 6pm last night and we all decided to go to the beach and do a little swimming together. Our big purchase for this trip was buying everyone goggles and snorkels so we could all search for fish together. It has been amazing watching all the fish swimming around our feet. We even got to see a Sting Ray!!! It was so cool!!! Without the goggles we wouldn't have been able to see him. God and his infinite wisdom created the big thing to match the bottom of the ocean perfectly! It took me a little while to see him after Mike did, but as he moved, he caught my attention. I followed him for a little while and was able to watch him and see how cool he really was. He was about 2 1/2 feet in length and absolutely beautiful!!! We stayed out for about another hour and then saw hundreds of fish all in one area. It was like being in the Finding Nemo movie. Everywhere we looked we saw hundreds of fish as far as the underwater eye could see. It was stunning! It was also a little terrifying as we realized it was probably close to feeding time which meant it was time for us to get out of the water! It was, however, absolutely beautiful! I wish I had an underwater camera so you could see just how beautiful a sight it was!

The Best Thing I Have Ever Seen on the Beach

We took our daily trip to the beach today. Princess met a new friend who was here from Colorado and they spent the day together riding her boogie boards and searching for seashells. In a mess of seaweed that came floating upon them, they found a small crab that they affectionately named Claw. All the kids were super excited and spent most of the day watching himself bury himself in the sand in their bucket.

While watching the crab, Bruiser came running over and yelled, Mama, look over there.... those people are getting baptized. Sure enough their was a group of about 50 people looking upon a 3 people in the ocean, one of whom was getting baptized. It was so awesome to see them proclaim their faith to all who were there. Everyone stopped to watch and many cheered!!! Tears were filling my eyes as I rejoiced with the people and the angels as one after another proclaimed to everyone they loved Jesus! It was absolutely beautiful to watch and be a part of. Praise God!!!

Hello from Boca Raton, FL!

My hubby has had to travel a lot this summer, something that we are not use to at all! After several trips away, we all realized this was not working for our family. We decided a couple weeks ago that we would tag along. Our first destination was OH. This was a very simple trip but the kids loved the indoor pool and the hotel was great on providing a full breakfast every morning and even a full dinner one night of our stay. That trip went so well, we decided to tag along on this next trip. Mike was going to be gone for 2 weeks - 2 weeks was way to long for us to be with out him! This trip was much further away but would definitely have more a vacation feel for me - Boca Raton, FL! Actually we are staying at the Delray Beach which is absolutely beautiful!!! Poor Mike has had to work long hours every night and all this weekend but we have been enjoying the beach and sunshine.

The hardest part about these trips is that I haven't been able to work on my scrapbook and card projects. We didn't have enough room in the car for me to bring my supplies so I had to say goodbye for a couple weeks. I got so sad today that as I was flipping through channels on the tv, I came to a Spanish channel that was scrapbooking. I sat and watched for a whole half hour just to feel like I too was scrapbooking!!! :) How sad, I know. That's o.k., now is the perfect time for me to use Studio J and have some fun. Once I complete my ten layouts that I get Free Shipping on, I will post the layouts for you to see.

Here is a small card I created when I was in OH. I had only minimal supplies and papers that were pre-cut and left over from a CK expo that I did several years back. Remember, my supplies were minimal but I thought that it came together pretty well. I used the July Stamp of the Month for the shooting stars at the bottom of the card. I will probably add a small star dimensional element when I get home but for now this is what I have. Enjoy!

Perfect Placement with Studio

The last of the Studio J tutorials in this series - Perfect Placement. I've shown you how to change the papers, pictures and now it's time to work on the embellishments. Embellishments like brads, buttons, ribbons and the like are what can take your layouts from blase' to fabulous. This video will show you just how easy you adding embellishments can be with Studio J. The best part, you can use all the embellishments you want with Studio J - with no extra charge!!!

Another Studio J tutorial: Using the Photo Editing Tool

Good Evening! Tonight I wanted to post another Studio-J tutorial - this one focusing on using the photo editing tool. This amazing feature allows you to change color balance and saturation; remove red-eye, blemishes, wrinkles and whiten teeth! Wow - if only I could do that in real life!!! :)

Enjoy the video and let me know it works for you! Still looking for your amazing artwork!!!

Plan now to Get a Way in November

OK ladies - get your calendars out and plan now to join me as we take a weekend scrapbooking trip to Grand Oaks Retreat in Scottsboro, AL. For the last year, I have run into several people who have pulled me aside and told me I just had to try this place. Now this place is normally booked for a year out but we were blessed enough to get in for a rare opening in November. Though this isn't the usual time for our annual getaway, we will take it an be happy! You and Me: Stronger Together

Many of you asked CTMH if there is something they could do to support those affected by recent severe weather in the US. In line with CTMH's heart for the people, they have decided to create a special called You & Me: Stronger Together, to raise funds for the survivors of the severe storms that have pummeled the Midwest and Southern states.

During the month of June CTMH will continue to offer the You and Me but now for only $15 US(a retail value of $34.95), and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross 2011 Floods and Tornadoes relief operations. Simply use item number CC1012B to place your order for this sensational kit and help those in need at the same time. This offer is only while supplies last so hurry up and click here to order your kit and support those in need!

scrapmamaof6 sent you a video: "Studio J®: Personalize Your Layouts"

Here is the 2nd video in our How to Series of Studio J. This video shows how Studio J has options galore for personalizing your scrapbook layouts. It will show you how to change the color of your photos; swap the cardstock and patterned B&T paper in the layout; embellish with buttons, ribbons and metals; distress the surface or edges of your paper using a range of tools and colors - almost like scrapbooking traditional style but without the glue dots :).

Enjoy the video and try it out for yourself here.

Last Chance for May specials!

I hope you had a wonderful Memorial Day. We went camping with several families from our Cheers group at church and ate Smores to our hearts content! YUM!!! If smores are a little sweet for you try this: try adding peanut butter to the cracker before the chocolate and marshmallow. My husband who is not a big fan of smores at two this way and loved them! They cut the sweetness down a bit and if you add natural peanut butter you might even play the healthy card J Maybe!

I wanted to post a couple quick reminders:

1. Today is the last day for our You and Me Paper Pack special. This paper pack is super cute and well worth the money. In the kit you get all the papers needed to create 2 double page layouts, a cute stamp set which includes a stitch stamp to make your layout look like you added real stitching to it, large chocolate ribbon, brown opaques and fabulous resist dimensional elements where you add color to the chipboard and a design resists the color and stand outs. Super cute!!!

Here is a layout I created with the "boy" themed paper: It came together rather quickly and is super cute (if you ask me J). As a reminder, this kit can be purchased outright for $39.95 or with a $50 order is only $15!

2. Today is also the last day to sign up to be a Close to My Heart Consultant for HALF PRICE!!!

You can't ask for a better deal than that!!! You get to choose any 3 bundle packages that you like out of the Consultant kit bundles to customize your kit to work for you! In addition to this amazing deal – you also receive the You and Me kit FREE!!! Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all you wonderful mothers' out there who take the time to read this blog. This morning I woke up to all the kids in bed with us trying to give me their card first. Last night as the kids were going to bed, I jokingly told them that I wanted breakfast in bed in the morning. I was specific too - I wanted eggs, pancakes, bacon, orange juice and coffee! I guess I was feeling hungry as I told them. Anyway, as I was opening their cards, Whiz Kid handed me a piece of paper that he said he had worked on in bed last night. I opened it to find a drawing of my breakfast just as I had described - I now had my breakfast in bed! Yep, he's my very literal child - got to love him!!!

I thought I would share with you the card I made for my mother-in-law for Mother's Day. Here I used the new Sophia papers and used the technique I taught at my April workshop to make the flower soft and velvety. This is such a fun and easy technique. It works well on scrapbook layouts but is perfect for handmade cards because you can touch and feel the end result without it getting hidden under your page protector like it would in on a layout.

To create the effect you need:

    • Fun Flock

    • a small ziplock bag

    • Reinker - the color of your choice (I used hollyhock)

    • Spray Pen

    • water

Fill your Spray Pen with water up to the 4th line and add 20+ drops of reinker to the water. The more reinker the darker the color. Shake well. Pour the desired amount of Fun Flock into your ziplock bag and spray several sprays of the reinker mixture into the bag. Close up and massage with your fingers to mix the color through-out the fun flock. If you want a darker color, spray a few extra sprays of your reinker mixture and massage again until mixed thoroughly. When you have reached the desired color, pour the flock onto a paper plate and let dry. If there are any large clumps, use a knife or piercing tool to break them up. Let completely dry. Once dry, stamp or cut out an image and use your glue pen to draw glue where you want the flock. Rub with your fingers the flock over the image and shake off the excess. Let dry. This technique gives such a nice velvety look and feel to your flowers, clouds, animals, etc. You can do this technique over and over again and changing only the color to fit your design. An easy and inexpensive technique to add a little punch to your projects.

Here's the technique used on my Sophia Workshop on the Go layout for April. It's hard to see in the pictures but I hope you can see it.

Here's the 2nd layout we created at the layout. Fun!
